Kristen Rissell is a family nurse practitioner (FNP) who brings years of experience working in a wide variety of healthcare settings, including hospital and outpatient facilities—covering a range of clinical specialties such as women’s health, emergency medicine, medical/surgical, gastroenterology, oncology and neurosciences, to name a few. Prior to earning her certification as a nurse practitioner, Kristen worked as a staff nurse at both UNC Healthcare and Duke University Hospital.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the College of Our Lady of the Elms in Chicopee, MA, and then went on to earn her master’s degree in nursing from The University of North Carolina at Chapel-Hill. She served as a clinical instructor for the University of North Carolina School of Nursing. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and is working toward her certification in obesity medicine. Kristen is also certified in Motivational Interviewing, a goal directed counseling style designed to help individuals resolve internal ambivalence and harness the motivation to create positive behavior change. This evidence-based method improves treatment outcomes by supporting patients on their journey while strengthening their motivations and well-being.
At True You Weight Loss, Kristen works with patients before and after their procedures to set healthy weight loss goals and to support them with evidence-based medical advice and guidance along the way.
Kristen is passionate about building relationships with her patients, and in helping them be the healthiest they can be—as well as sharing in their successes. In her free time, she loves traveling and going on outdoor adventures. On the weekends, she’s likely to be found hiking or participating in a hot yoga class.
