With a history of prediabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure, Frank wanted to take control of his weight and his health before it was too late. He’d seen too many family members struggle with obesidad and diabetes to continue his current path.
After struggling with weight for most of his adulthood, Frank tried nearly every diet and exercise strategy under the sun. Year after year, Frank put in the work and constant effort to lose weight. He tried diet after diet and even engaged a weight management doctor to support him on a medically-guided ceto program. He worked with a strength conditioning trainer, too. While Frank would lose weight, it was never as much as he’d hoped – plus, the restrictive diets were challenging and led him to eliminate fruit from his diet for more than eight years. Hoping for a miracle solution, he tried the GLP-1 weight loss drug Wegovy, and later Mounjaro, but neither provided the results Frank knew he needed to achieve, and after a while he just couldn’t justify the ongoing expense.
Still struggling at more than 330 pounds, Frank was ready to find a more permanent, sustainable solution.
Weighing Weight Loss Options
Ready to pursue the procedural path, Frank considered undergoing a vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) and met with a bariatric surgeon. But he wasn’t sure he wanted anything that drastic. Frank’s father had been a surgeon, so he was aware of the risks and recovery that come with an invasive surgical procedure. Fortunately, he kept looking and discovered True You Weight Loss and was excited to see was right near his hometown of Raleigh, NC.
Frank booked his consultation with al Dr. Christopher McGowan and was immediately impressed by his expertise and leadership in the field of endobariatrics. After learning about una gastroplastia endoscópica en manga (ESG siglas en ingles), y ablación de la mucosa del fundus gástrico (GFMA), Frank became very interested in the ESG-MAX®, which combines these two non-surgical procedures for weight loss results that rival surgical outcomes.
“While I was assessing my options, I consulted with my primary care doctor who confirmed that the procedure would be a good choice for me – as long as I worked with an experienced gastroenterologist like Dr. McGowan,” Frank explains.
Frank was relieved to learn that the ESG-MAX® procedure came with a lower risk profile and less downtime than surgery would require – and he liked the idea of a one-time, fixed expense rather than the ongoing monthly investment he’d made while on weight loss medications. Frank was also reassured to learn that having the ESG-MAX® wouldn’t prevent him from having a surgical procedure down the road if needed, allowing him to keep his options open.
