Laura Sebring earned her Master of Science in Nutrition from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she graduated as a member of Kappa Omicron Nu, the National Honor Society for the Human Sciences. She also completed her dietetic internship at Meredith College. Laura is also certified in Motivational Interviewing, a goal directed counseling style designed to help individuals resolve internal ambivalence and harness the motivation to create positive behavior change. This evidence-based method improves treatment outcomes by supporting patients on their journey while strengthening their motivations and well-being. As a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the American Society of Nutrition, The Obesity Society, the Obesity Action Coalition, the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, she is constantly striving to stay abreast of the latest research and developments in her field.
While Laura has served in many different settings in the world of dietetics, her passion lies with bariatrics and weight management. As someone who has struggled with excess weight herself, she is able to help her patients feel comfortable and strong in the world of weight loss where they may have been very uncomfortable in the past. Her energy and enthusiasm encourage patients to be highly motivated and ready for a life change.
Laura is originally from Cary, North Carolina, but has lived in Arizona and Maryland before moving back to her hometown. She is the mother of two boys and stepmother to two more. She likes to experiment and expand their palates to many different healthy foods. She and her husband love to travel and they are avid food tourists. When she is not thinking about food and nutrition, she loves to practice yoga, hike, and go fishing with her boys.
