Dr. Maselli brings more than twelve years of medical training and clinical practice to his specialty. In 2021, he was hand-picked from a wide field of gastroenterologists to receive intensive hands-on instruction in endoscopic bariatric therapies (“endobariatrics”) from Dr. Christopher McGowan, as well as to helm the Atlanta office of True You Weight Loss and help advance the practice’s mission of clinical excellence and compassionate patient care. Dr. Maselli is now one of the country’s highest volume bariatric endoscopists. He performs hundreds of endobariatric procedures—including endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG), fundus ablation, transoral outlet reduction (TORe/bypass revision), and surgical sleeve revision—each year. In fact, he now travels around the country to lead workshops in endobariatrics and train other physicians in these procedures. Recognized as a field-leader, Dr. Maselli has been invited to deliver lectures about endobariatrics at state and national conferences for major medical societies, including the Georgia Gastroenterologic and Endoscopic Society and the Obesity Medical Association.

Dr. Maselli graduated from Princeton University with concentrations in molecular biology and neuroscience. He then attended the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Medical Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. After receiving his medical degree, Dr. Maselli completed an additional seven years of specialized medical training at premier institutions: a residency in internal medicine at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC; a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN; and an advanced fellowship in interventional endoscopy at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN, where he also served as an Instructor of Medicine. Throughout his training, he received multiple awards for his dedication to the medical field and his patients, including the Sarah L. Stone Memorial Award for excellence in medical education from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, the Haskel Schiff Award for excellence in the practice of clinical medicine from Duke University Hospital, and the Eugenie Mayer Bolz Award for excellence in patient care from the Mayo Clinic.
Commitment to Innovation & Research:
Dr. Maselli has a deep respect for clinical research and its role in advancing the field of endobariatrics, which, in turn, allows him to provide the most effective, state-of-the-art therapies for his patients. While at the Mayo Clinic, he worked with exceptional research mentors in obesity, participated in the first and only randomized controlled trial of ESG (the MERIT study), and completed the postdoctoral certificate program in research at Mayo’s Center for Clinical and Translational Science. Dr. Maselli now serves as the Associate Director of Research at True You Weight Loss, helping design, run, analyze, and publish studies on innovative endoscopic procedures to treat obesity and related conditions. He has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed studies in prestigious medical journals, including The Lancet, Gastroenterology, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, The American Journal of Gastroenterology, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Obesity Surgery, Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases, and Clinical Journal of Gastroenterology.
