MEET Dr. Brian Coan, MD, FACS

As a double board-certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Coan dedicates his career of more than 20 years to enhancing lives by combining surgery with wellness solutions. His commitment to holistic well-being led him to found True You Weight Loss with Dr. McGowan. Under his direction, True You Weight Loss has emerged as a global leader in endobariatrics, transforming thousands of lives through high-quality, compassionate care and innovative weight management solutions making it the first and largest private endobariatric center in the world. Working together with Dr. McGowan they have combined GI expertise with Mechanical Engineering know-how and Plastic and General Surgery principles to not only advance the procedures delivered at True You by making them safer and more effective, but also enhance the overall patient experience. More than 5000 patients to date have enjoyed real and lasting weight loss success.

A Leader in Healthcare and Business

Dr. Coan’s journey began at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he studied Mechanical Engineering. Following this, he pursued medicine at the University of Chicago-Pritzker. He completed residencies in both General Surgery at UTSW in Dallas and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Duke University Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. He is double board certified in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. He later earned an Executive MBA from the Kellogg School of Management in their Physician-CEO program.

As the President and Founder of CARE Plastic Surgery in Cary, NC, Dr. Coan has driven the practice’s growth since its founding in 2009 making it one of the top practices year after year in the Raleigh, NC region. CARE Plastic Surgery expanded to include Cary Surgery Center in 2017 and SkinCARE Spas by CARE in 2019.

Throughout his career, Dr. Coan has received nationwide recognition for his surgical expertise and compassionate patient care, including accolades from Top Doctor, US News and World Report, Real Self, and Vitals. CARE recently was noted to be in the top 5% of practices in the nation by Allergan Aesthetics.

Dr. Coan holds memberships in the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is dedicated to continuous learning and innovation in patient care.
